Report: Successful Webinar Highlights Key Trends in UHD for Media and Entertainment in 2025

On April 16, Industry experts from the UHD World Association (UWA), Omdia, and STUDIOCANAL (A Canal+ Company) hosted a highly insightful webinar on April 16, exploring the key trends shaping 2025 and how these developments are both driving and being influenced by the adoption of UHD technologies, content, and services.
Maria Rua Aguete, Head of Omdia’s Media and Entertainment team, opened the session by outlining the major trends expected in 2025. She addressed the shifting dynamics of the video streaming market, the growing importance of ad-supported models, the critical role of live sports, and the rapidly evolving patterns of content consumption and device usage. Maria also highlighted the potential impact of reciprocal tariffs on the U.S. television market.
Next, Jean-Pierre Boiget, Head of Distribution Services & IT at STUDIOCANAL, shared insights into the Canal+ Group’s UHD strategy. He spotlighted the launch of Canal+ UHD HDR in September of last year, emphasizing the enhanced viewing experience it offers and the strong positive feedback it has received from the market.
Remi Tereszkiewicz, Chief Marketing Officer Europe at the UHD World Association, presented an overview of the association’s initiatives and the latest innovations in UHD technology. UWA, which brings together more than 400 members from 22 countries around the world, is redefining audiovisual standards through its VIVID format. HDR Vivid enhances color, brightness, and artistic realism across all screens, while Audio Vivid—the world’s first AI-driven 3D audio standard—delivers an immersive sound experience. Remi also explored the opportunities these technologies present for content creators, distributors, OTT platforms, and OEMs. Notably, VIVID is offered under a royalty-free model, making it a cost-effective solution for high-quality audiovisual production and distribution.
The panelists also engaged in a dynamic discussion on current hot topics, including the transformation of the video streaming landscape, emerging trends in viewer habits across Europe, and the growing influence of artificial intelligence in the industry. A key focus was the commercial potential of UHD technologies, content, and services, and how they are positioned to drive the next wave of innovation in media and entertainment.
