Intelligent Vision for an UHD Future— UWA Supports the Successful Hosting of the UHD Audiovisual Technology Innovation and Development Forum

As spring brings warmth and all things come to life, on March 30, the 2025 ZGC Forum Annual Conference – UHD Audiovisual Technology Innovation and Development Forum was successfully held in Beijing.

With the theme “Intelligent Vision for an UHD Future,” the event brought together over 400 industry experts and professionals from home and abroad. Through keynote speeches, launch ceremonies, and round-table discussions, participants engaged in in-depth dialogue on promoting full-chain optimization and high-quality development of the UHD industry.

Since the release of the “Memorandum of Cooperation on the China (Beijing) UHD TV Pioneer Action Plan” in April 2024, Beijing has established the nation’s first dedicated support fund for the development of the UHD audiovisual industry. Leveraging RMB 700 million from municipal fiscal resources and RMB 100 million from ultra-long-term government bonds, the initiative has spurred nearly RMB 5 billion in social investment and generated close to RMB 30 billion in economic benefits.

Beijing TV became the first provincial-level satellite channel in China to broadcast in both UHD and HD simultaneously. More than 1,100 UHD audiovisual enterprises have flourished across the city, delivering over 60,000 hours of UHD content, while 162 innovative technological applications have emerged in concentrated fashion.

In 2025, the Beijing Radio and Television Bureau (BRTB) launched the “123456” Action Plan to accelerate the development of a globally leading digital audiovisual production hub in China. Centered on digital empowerment, scenario-driven applications, and industrial integration, the initiative aims to upgrade, enhance, and innovate the city’s UHD audiovisual industry.

At the forum, BRTB unveiled ten cutting-edge UHD technology projects and ten innovative application scenarios, highlighting its focus on building an integrated ecosystem of technology, content, and real-world use cases.

Additionally, BRTB and Bank of Beijing introduced a suite of financial service plans to support UHD enterprises, with the goal of serving over 1,000 companies and mobilizing more than RMB 20 billion in funding over the next five years.

At the forum, guests engaged in in-depth discussions on optimizing and upgrading the entire UHD value chain. Topics included content creation, technological innovation, and real-world application of UHD, all aimed at driving integrated industry development.

Mr. Jiang Wenbo, Member of the Editorial Board of China Media Group, Director of the National Key Laboratory for UHD Video Production and Presentation, and Chairman of the UWA, delivered a keynote speech titled “Building the UHD Production and Broadcasting System.”

He emphasized the importance of seizing the opportunities presented by rapid advancements in audiovisual technology and artificial intelligence. By leveraging UHD, internet, and AI technologies, he called for the establishment of an internationally leading, self-reliant UHD media technology system—one that fosters new productivity in the media industry.

At the invitation of the UWA, Mr. Remo Vogel, Chairman of the Digital Video Broadcasting Project (DVB), attended the Zhongguancun Forum and delivered a presentation titled “DVB-I, the Way to Next Generation Television

Remo highlighted that DVB-I integrates multiple delivery methods and content sources. Localization efforts are underway in China, including support for AVS3 video and audio codecs, advancing commercial adoption of HDR Vivid, translating the DVB-I specification into an official Chinese version, and launching DVB-I prototype products for Chinese manufacturers.

At the invitation of UWA, Mr. Thierry Fautier, Managing Director of YMT (USA) and Founder of the UHD Forum, delivered a video address. In his speech, he explored the impact of AI on UHD technologies and the industry, and shared insights on how AI can accelerate the evolution and upgrading of UHD solutions.

The roundtable session was moderated by Mr. Vincent Zhang, General-Secretary of UWA. Discussions centered on two key themes: “AI Accelerating the Transformation of Content Production” and “AI Empowering New Scenarios in Culture, Commerce, Tourism, and Sports.”

Industry representatives from Huace Film & TV, Sony Pictures, BOE, and 7D Vision joined academic experts to explore pathways for technological innovation and industry integration. Participants agreed that UHD audiovisual technology is set to redefine cultural consumption experiences and inject fresh momentum into the integrated development of culture, commerce, tourism, and sports.

This forum marked a key step in advancing the UHD Pioneer Action Plan and fostering new productive forces within the industry. It served as a practical model for building a high ground of innovation that blends technology and culture.

More importantly, the forum stood out as a premier platform for international exchange and cooperation in the UHD sector. Foreign guests actively participated, sharing their insights and recommendations, while gaining a deep appreciation for the speed, strategy, and innovation driving China’s UHD development. Their engagement laid a strong foundation for promoting Chinese UHD standards on the global stage.

At the same time, China’s progress in UHD has reinforced global confidence in the future of the industry.
