2024 UWA Summit Held In Shenzhen China
From November 28 to 30, 2024, the UHD World Association hosted the 2024 UWA SUMMIT and UWA Members Conference in Shenzhen under the theme “Create Vivid a World, Share Intelligent Future”. The event brought together over 600 industry leaders, including UWA members, renowned universities, elite enterprises across the industrial chain, and representatives from international organizations, with more than 20 overseas enterprises and organizations participating. The summit not only celebrated the remarkable achievements of the ultra-high-definition (UHD) video industry over the past year but also envisioned a brilliant future for the UHD audio-visual industry empowered by AI technologies. The conference was simultaneously live-streamed on platforms like CMG Video, attracting a cumulative viewership of approximately 3.8 million.
UHD Brings Revolutionary Changes to Digital Life
As a cutting-edge field integrating information technology with cultural creativity, the UHD audio-visual industry is reshaping lifestyles and work patterns with unprecedented momentum, driving the transformation and upgrade of the digital economy. In 2024, UWA achieved significant results in technological innovation, standard formulation, internationalization, and ecosystem construction.
- Technological Innovation: Key breakthroughs were made in multiple critical technologies, with 13 group standards and three white papers released.
- International Progress: The Audio Vivid standard was approved by ITU SG6, becoming one of the world’s four major 3D audio standards, while HDR Vivid was successfully proposed in ITU SG6.
- Ecosystem Development: The dual Vivid ecosystem (HDR Vivid and Audio Vivid) advanced steadily, with applications in vehicles, homes, and cinemas. The HDR Vivid ecosystem now includes 112 participating enterprises, and Audio Vivid boasts 84 participants, with 554 certified terminal models.
Through over 80 activities, media outreach, and joint marketing with members, the association achieved over 200 million exposures. It also strengthened international collaboration and promoted the integration of culture and technology.
Insights from UHD Industry Leaders
In his keynote speech, UWA Chairman Jiang Wenbo emphasized the association’s commitment to openness, collaboration, and mutual benefits to drive sustainable development in the UHD audio-visual industry by 2024. General-secretary, Vincent Zhang, gave the speech summarising UWA’s year and the plan for 2025.
- Olivier Chiabodo, Founder of The Explorers and UWA’s European Vice President, highlighted content creation based on the dual Vivid standards, with plans to produce 56 cultural heritage documentaries using these standards from 2025 to 2028.
- Takeshi Yoshida, President of Sony (China) Limited, shared insights into Sony’s UHD industry chain, spanning shooting, production, transmission, and display. He emphasized Sony’s role in advancing UHD production efficiency and quality through innovative cameras and network solutions, transforming home entertainment experiences.
The summit also featured video addresses from global experts, including Andy Quested (Chair ITU-R Working Party 6C), Paul Higgs (Board Member of Metaverse Standards Forum), Thierry Fautier (UHD Forum Founder), and Stan Moote (IABM CTO), providing the insights in the global development of UHD industry technologies.
UWA also announced strategic a collaboration with SID CHINA and the Colorist Society International (CSI), The Asia-Pacific Institute for Broadcasting Development (AIBD).
Themed Forums and Exhibition Highlights
At the same time, 3 parallel forums explored respectively on topics such as AI Empowering the Ultra-HD Industry Development, AUDIO and HDR Vivid standards Boosting Industrial Development, and Ultra High Definition Display Technology. In addition, three special sessions with the topic of Fast Cloud & Lightweight Compression, Test Technologies and Equipment, and Business Model of High-Quality Home Viewing Movies, were held simultaneously.
- Thierry Fautier discussed AI’s role in next-gen media production and distribution.
- Ian Lowe, CTO of CSI, gave a presentation on The Future of Color Management and HDR.
- Donny Chang, Elecard APAC Reseller, discussed key issues in video streamlines with industry experts.
An exhibition titled “UWA UHD Technology Standards & Ecosystem Leaders” showcased over 100 exhibits from 80 companies, covering the entire UHD industrial chain—from content creation to terminal presentation. International exhibitors, including Samsung, MediaTek, Blackmagic Design, Colorfront, FilmLight, ACE, The Explorers Network Sas, and AIBD, unveiled remarkable products.
This exhibition highlighted UWA’s achievements in technology breakthroughs, ecosystem building, and international standardization in 2024, reinforcing its global standing.
Expanding Global Influence
UWA enhanced its international presence through events like IBC 2024, the FOBTV Forum, and the AMS Asia Media Summit. It fostered collaboration with over 30 global organizations and industry leaders, including Insight TV, Adobe, and Creative Sound.
Engagements at Cannes MIPTV, BCA Broadcast Asia, and other key platforms showcased UWA’s accomplishments in standards and ecosystem development. UWA also welcomed delegations from five countries, deepening ties with over 50 international media and industry clients from South Africa, Spain, Brazil, and Turkey.
