As the Chinese New Year brings new hope and vitality, UWA, with heartfelt gratitude and enthusiasm, joins hands with all member units and industry partners to reflect on the fruitful achievements of 2024 and look forward to a promising new chapter in 2025. 

In 2024, UWA Achieved Significant Milestones in Driving the UHD Industry Forward  

With the strong support of numerous active industry participants, member units, and global partners, UWA achieved remarkable results in 2024. The number of members grew significantly, remarkable progress was made in technical certifications and standard-setting, international cooperation was continuously deepened, and brand influence continued to expand, strongly promoting the development of the UHD industry. 

 

Membership Growth and Certifications  

UWA welcomed over 90 new members in the past year, reaching 401 members, including 42 international members from 22 countries and regions. The association certified 417 HDR Vivid devices and 137 Audio Vivid devices, with over 60 chip models supporting HDR Vivid. Additionally, 18 color grading studios and 12 mixing studios earned UWA certifications, and more than 300 member exchanges were conducted throughout the year.   

 

Standards and Technical Development  

The Standards Working Group expanded to 132 members, held four quarterly meetings, and reviewed 75 proposals, resulting in the release of 13 new standards, bringing the total to 60. UWA became a counterpart member of ITU-R SG6 and established an international standards group. Notably, the Audio Vivid standard was included in ITU-R BS.2493, receiving approval as one of the world’s four major 3D audio standards.   

 

Innovations in Entertainment and Automotive Applications 

UWA introduced the world’s first in-car multichannel 3D audio standard, elevating immersive experiences in smart cockpits with support from over 40 automotive members. The association advanced UHD integration into homes, delivering premium family entertainment. China Media Group led the development of multi-screen collaboration specifications, enabling UHD screen-casting for 200 million users. The set-top box standard, now a broadcast industry benchmark, was adopted by China Mobile, China Telecom, and China Unicom, incorporating Dual Vivid standards into procurement guidelines.   

 

Content and Media Impact  

In 2024, over 20 production companies and OTT platforms launched more than 100,000 hours of HDR Vivid content, while numerous films and TV shows adopted Audio & HDR Vivid standards. UWA’s UHD technologies enhanced sports broadcasts, variety shows, and outdoor UHD experiences through the "Thousands Screens in Hundreds Cities" initiative, covering 1,075 large screens across 112 cities. In XR domain, UWA developed white papers, initiated standards, and explored industrial clusters to drive innovation.   

 

Global Collaboration and Milestone Projects 

UWA strengthened international partnerships, collaborating with over 50 global organizations, including ITU and DVB, and hosted the UHD Roundtable at IBC. The 16-episode 8K documentary seriesGreat InventoryandView From Above’, formatted in HDR Vivid, premiered on Migu Video before launching on iQIYI, Tencent Video, and Beijing Television. UWA also facilitated the Sino-French documentary Amazing China’, which debuted on CCTV in October, commemorating 60 years of diplomatic relations between China and France.    

 

Brand Building and Industry Influence  

The Vivid sub-brands were officially launched in 2024, boosting UWA’s visibility. The association organized or participated in over 80 conferences and forums, while initiatives across platforms like CCTV, official media outlets, and social media reached over 200 million exposures. The Audio & HDR Vivid brands alone garnered more than 10 billion impressions.  

Strategic Roadmap: UWA 2030   

At the 2024 UWA Summit, the association unveiled UWA 2030, a comprehensive five-year strategy outlining nine key industry trends and sixteen UHD application scenarios. Developed with input from 400+ experts, UWA 2030 sets the stage for the future of the UHD industry.   

 

Operational Enhancements  

To enhance member services, UWA has issued 27 new management regulations. It also established the Film Working Group, UHD Display Working Group, and Brand Special Group, advancing professionalism, standardization, and IT-driven processes.   

Through these achievements, UWA continues to lead the global UHD industry toward innovation, collaboration, and growth.

We remain committed to advancing innovation, raising quality standards, and integrating UHD technology into everyday life, all while driving ecological projects and aligning with global industrial trends. Through deeper collaboration with international partners, we aim to professionalize, standardize, and globalize UWA's operations. 

As we embark on this exciting new chapter, we are determined to strengthen our operations, expand our influence through strategic marketing efforts, and foster sustainable growth for the UHD industry. Together, we will establish UWA as a globally influential association, paving the way for a brighter future.
