As we celebrated the first "Intangible Cultural Heritage Edition" of the Chinese New Year, the 8K documentary Amazing China, co-produced by CMG's Chinese Global Program Center and The Explorers, was broadcast to global audiences on TV5MONDE starting from 24:00 Beijing time on January 28.

This marks the first large-scale co-produced documentary by CMG that adopts China's leading 8K UHD technology standard in cooperation with foreign partners. It is also the first documentary with this standard to be aired on a major Western media platform.  Amazing China  made its debut on TV5MONDE Asia at 24:00 Beijing time on January 28 and was subsequently broadcast across the France-Belgium-Switzerland-Monaco region covered by TV5MONDE on January 29 Beijing time.

TV5MONDE's official Instagram account promoted the program via short video clips. Starting from February 6th , the documentary will be gradually broadcast across TV5MONDE’s coverage areas, including the Pacific region, Maghreb & Middle East, Latin America, the United States, Africa, and Europe. Moreover, from January 29, the documentary has been accessible for global streaming on TV5MONDE’s digital platform: https://www.tv5mondeplus.com/fr.

During the overseas broadcast of Amazing China, the official accounts of the Chinese Embassy in France on Facebook and other international social media platforms actively promoted the program. Additionally, 19 new media platforms from eight major Chinese - language media outlets in the U.S., France, Portugal, Russia, the five Central Asian countries, Italy, Japan, and South Africa also promoted Amazing China, reaching over 13.35 million overseas Chinese viewers.

Employing "8K + HDR Vivid + Audio Vivid" technology, this documentary was produced through a full 8K workflow by a Sino-French joint team. During the filming process, the production team used RED full-frame 8K cameras, recording in RAW format in line with CMG's 8K HDR production standards to ensure high-quality master footage. Aerial cinematography was carried out using the DJI Inspire 3 full-frame 8K ultra-wide drone, capturing high-resolution aerial views.

In post-production, the Baselight X color grading system was utilized within the Rec.2100 2020 color gamut and HLG 1.2 Gamma 1000-nit color space, ensuring a high degree of consistency in color and brightness across different scene elements. From pre-production and post-production to the final broadcast, the fully integrated 8K UHD workflow established a seamless end-to-end 8K production and broadcasting system.

Simultaneously, the documentary's audio production makes use of CMG’s independently developed Audio Vivid immersive sound technology. Compared with traditional audio, Audio Vivid significantly enhances spatial perception and directional accuracy, making viewers feel as if they are truly immersed in the scene. This innovation meets the growing demand for highly immersive and high-fidelity sound experiences.

UWA, which provided strong support during filming, stated that this will be the first Sino-French co-produced documentary to support Audio & HDR Vivid technology in an international broadcast. The integration of 8K + HDR Vivid + Audio Vivid in this documentary is set to offer an even more vivid experience to global audiences.
